The Buddha Board is very simple: fill the included water brush and paint lightly, then watch as your painting fairly quickly disappears.I got it because I thought it would be a great way to practice paint strokes without wasting paint & paper — helps to develop muscle memory. Also a good way to grab yourself some de-stressing time.It includes a small cloth bag to keep it in, although it’s a tight fit.It takes some practice to figure out the right amount of water to get a smooth flow.If you’re not familiar with water brushes, you just unscrew the bottom and fill it with water. Screw the two parts of the brush together, remove the cap that goes over the brush, and squeeze the sides of the bottom (while holding the brush pointing down) to allow water to flow into the brush.It will probably need several squeezes to get the brush wet enough to flow smoothly over the board.Practice your painting without wasting suppliesCalm your mindEnjoy!

But of course, you can save your images quickly with your cell phone-- but do it quick, as I find images I've created/started disappearing in as little as 10 seconds! Yep, it was a warm day , as I'm at the beginning of a very hot summer here... some 85 degrees outside! ;o)The water canvas is as promised, portable and collapses very small-- the roll up stand unfurls to cover and protect the surface to be water painted. There's even an elastic belly band to keep things closed up and the surface protected.One drawback, is that the water pen was very hard to fill, and I couldn't find my mini funnel to fill the tube containing the water part easily. For some reason, despite my extensive experience over the years, I don't remember my water brushes being so hard to fill the reservoir with just water... I'll admit my water brushes from the past had a bigger reservoir, and much easier to fill as well!Even slightly squeezing the air out of this tube, wouldn't let the water flow in, and it felt like a bubble of air or? kept the water from filling the tube. I hope I'm making sense here? I simply tested the brush with the teeny amount of water that finally made it through, though messy over my sink. The bristles of the water brush was just fine, and the gasket held, keeping leaks at bay. Because of this of this difficulty of filling the water brush, I'm sorry I must take off a star.This water painting kit is a joy to work with once I found a workaround of my own, so I will still recommend this wonderful 'art board,' to inspire me (and you!) for future, large scale art projects.Give this Buddha Board Enso, Water Painting Canvas a try... I have the original large size Buddha Board. I love practicing my sumi-e and calligraphy on it. When I found that a smaller version was made for traveling I had to have it. This board is just the same as the original just a smaller size. The original was roughly 11 7/8 x 9 1/2 and the Enzo (smaller version) is 9 7/8 x 6 7/8. So if you love the original board you are going to love the travel size version. It comes with a water brush which is all you need to start working. I did notice that the strokes did not last a long time when trying to photograph the images produced. They are not great for pictures but are awesome that they do dry up fairly quickly when trying to make a new image. The Enso has a wrap cover like a tablet would, protecting its face from scratching and scraping. The Enso also comes with a travel bag which holds the water brush and board making it much easier for traveling. This does not feel like it was cheaply made, it was quality built. This is so sturdy and durable…you can really take hold of your creativity and just go…making it the perfect gift for graduations, birthdays, anniversaries and other cherished days. My daughter got hers first as a gift from a friend at Christmas. I then got the original for my birthday as a gift from my husband and finally I gifted myself with the Enso board. This is perfect for harnessing your sumi-e and calligraphy strokes. I was so pleased that I found it.

I love the original Buddha board, so this was a great upgrade for throwing into my bag on the go. I enjoy meditation practices that include marking paper, so this is a pleasant experience. The board is responsive and dries quickly. I love that it's compact and light yet still offers a lot of space to draw. I'm enjoying practicing kanji on it. Just like the original, the board is responsive and dries quickly.I am a watercolorist so picky about pens. This is a mediocre travel paint brush and is a bit stiff. The water often skips and can be difficult to control smoothly. I recommend upgrading the brush to a Pentel waterbrush for the best experience.Also, I have a 9-year-old kiddo who immediately stole this and was playing on it. I found that in order to keep the board clean, you also have to consider where the cover ends up facing down on. They used it on the kitchen table, and the inside of the cover picked up a small amount of oil, which made a mark on one spot of the board when my kid closed it. I'm pretty sure I can fix it with a little cornstarch to soak it up, a clean surface just something to keep in mind if you are getting this for a kid or intend to use this in places like dining halls.Would make a lovely gift to someone, especially something like graduation.

I had a small Buddha Board years ago; so when my daughter saw one and showed interest in it, I knew I had to get one for her. I love the bigger size of this Buddha Board and how it's geared toward an on-the-go lifestyle. It comes in its own case that opens/closes like a book (like a tablet case). It also came with one of those travel watercolor brushes that hold water inside, which is perfect! Not only can we enjoy this at home, but we can take it with us in the car or on a plane and enjoy it over and over again. This would make a great gift for almost anyone, or just a fun little zone-out activity for yourself.
